What's wrong with this DVD reader?
My DVD player is a Relisys Teco 16X DVD Reader. The numbers on the drive are: E191870, LR13721 AC42215015421 Version 4.22 MFD December/2001 My computer is running Windows XP pro SP1 on an ASROCK mobo. I'm running WinXP SP1. I open explorer. The computer tells me I have a "CD Drive" attached to my computer. I try: Settings, Control Panel, Add Hardware. I click on ATAPI DVD-ROM 16X, Next>. The computer tells me: "This device is working properly." I put a double-sided DVD (Windows/Linux) into the drive. The reader can only read the Linux side! When I put the Windows side in, the drive indicator flashes for a few minutes but the computer does nothing much (although the mouse cursor is busy and at some stage will show a little CD-ROM Icon next to it). Eventually the DVD lights stop flashing and the mouse comes back to life. The explorer Icon remains "CD Drive". Clicking on the Icon does not open the drive either. I checked this DVD disk on another machine in a DVD-burner and it boots OK. It is mounted as the only drive on the secondary IDE channel, originally as a master but just prior to installing the ASPI drivers I changed it to cable select. Since then I have installed the Adaptec ASPI drivers on this computer but still the DVD does not work. The drive does work as a CD-ROM reader and will treat CD-ROMs normally. My Computer, properties, manage, Device Manager indicates that the device is an: ATAPI DVD-ROM 16X. Upgrading the driver at this stage does nothing because Windows can't find a newer driver. Is there anything I can do to get it to work? |

Windows doesn't come on any double sided DVD' with Linux and it also doesn't come on DVD-R either. Probably imaginine the whole thing! |

I can't find it on the net but I do have it on my file server. Zipped its 121k in size. Can email it to you if you want. |

Yes please, I'll try that although this DVD drive was actually working when it was in a different PC! You can use: zenophile@ntlworld.com or 5.20.zenobia@spamgourmet.com (which I've just made especially for you!) You were right it was a UK magazine CD - 'PC Plus'. |

Apologies I meant Window format programs on one side and Linux format on the other. What's the point of replying to this post with a little snide remark, given that you can't help? |
