I have a GA - 71XE4 motherboard does anyone know the max size hard drive
that can be fitted?

The maximum size of the harddrive you can install depends on your case, not
your mainboard....

....or are you talking about capacity?

If the newest BIOS version does not support 48-bit LBA, simply use a PCI
ATA-100/133 controller card. Additionally, Windows 2000 SP3 or Windows XP
SP1 is needed to access hard drives larger than 137GB.

I would expect that with the latest BIOS it can support a minimum of
137GB (as manufacturer labels them, or 128 true GB), maybe even 160GB.

The limit at 128GiB, (~137.4GB), (268435456 sectors), is due to the
28 bit LBA's limitation. The new BIOS updates avoid this limit.

160GB is not the next BIOS limit. There are 250GB drives available.

WindowsXP requires SP1, and Windows 2000 requires SP3 with 48 bit
LBA address drivers to exceed the 137GB limit.

Windows98, WindowsME, and Windows NT 4.x, are limited to 137GB
without third party device drivers.
