Default CdRom won't install

IBM PC 330
Processor 133 Mhz
Ram 32Mb
OS 95 (Tried with another disk carrying Win 98 with same results)

Was recently given a PC from an Office environment. All components present
except no audio and no CdRom drive. The connector and power cables are
present.

When CdRom is connected to the PC the boot up process says the configuration
has changed and leads me into the bios set up. It points me to the IDE
settings and CdRom is listed but there's no settings to change except an
option to change from High Performance to Compatiable. Neither settings make
any difference. If I exit bios then a diagram is shown (Looks a bit like
some kind of system map but no detailed info. All the F keys seem to be
indicated on it and F1 is flashing). What is this diagram? The Pc is
non-responsive at this point and switching off is the only option.

If I dont exit setup but save settings the PC eventually crashes with a 1962
Boot Sequence Error and again the PC is non-responsive to anything.

Simply put I cant boot up.

Its as though whenever I connect the CdRom, the Harddisk is inaccessible.
Does this make sense? Im fairly sure the connector and power cables are
connected correctly and all parts work.

Are you connecting to the same cable as the hard drive? If so make sure
you have the CD-ROM jumpered as a slave. If the CD-ROM is on its own
cable make sure its set as master.

Thanks. It took me some hours but Im up and running.

I didnt have any jumper leads and the Hard drive and CD were on the same
cable. I found a spare IDE connector cable so put that from the CD to the
Secondary IDE on the mobo and it seems to be working ok now.
