i've been using kav 5.0.156 for about a month. it keeps warning me that a
full scan is overdue but doesn't seem capable of finishing a scan. i come back after several hours, turn the monitor on and find the computer frozen i've tried twice. both times it quit at 63% completion. . the last time i noted that it was in the windows folder, so i ran a separate scan on windows\ . successful. i tried closing all programs except kerio, goback ,tclockex. and strokeit. before i start looking for another av prog, i thought i would ask around and see if anyone knows a possible solution. it seems to work ok except for this issue. tia. |

If you haven't already done so, run chkdsk on all partitions you will scan.

today i uninstalled kav, ran 3 reg cleaners and reinstalled kav. got to 43%
before failing. no error messages. i just ran chkdsk on both c: (no problems) and d: (found 1st allocation unit problem, fixed.) i haven't tried running it for a 4th time, it has to wait for a time when i don't need the computer. i have to wonder if it will make any difference as it failed twice at 63% and once at 43%. chkdsk c: no problems. d: 1st allocation unit truncated.
as kav stopped at 63% twice and 43% last time, is a 1st allocation unit the likely problem? kav scanned system successfully. i am guessing that the chkdsk made the
difference. i also effectively delayed screensaver from taking effect and left the monitor on, but i doubt that this would have affected the outcome. Glad it's working for you. Having the monitor on or off should not
matter. Personally, I prefer to set it to power off after 30 minutes of idle. I don't use screen saver at all.
