Default encrypted files and folders

I don't know whats happened, some of my folders which have movie files and
image files in have been deleted and in its place loads of folders and very
large files have been created, and what is really baffeling me is the size
of these files are massive and in one folder the size of all files together
is over 599GB when I only have a 200Gb drive, some of the other folders
contain similar sizes of files. When I check the drive in My Computer it has
only got 30Gb used up which is about right. also all these folders and files
are named with symbols like squares and other rediculas symbols. I will be
soooooooo ****ed off if I've lost these files so any help will be GREATLY
apreciated:-)

The system is running windows 98 and is usually always on, and online as
well.

TIA

Mark

Sounds like file system corruption. Could be hardware, or a virus.

Start with scandisk (full scan). Then run a virus scan.
See http://www.claymania.com/panic.html for general info, and links to
various scanners.
