Default A lil problem!

I have a virus on my computer that automatically shuts my system down.
This usually happens when I start the Yahoo! Messenger and sometimes
even when I start Internet Explorer.

I would really appreciate some input on what this might be and any
anti-virus programs that might just work.

Thanks.

PS: I have Windows98.

You're very fortunate. See my web site for the F-Pup download.

Did you run F-Pup and let it extract to c:\f-prot on a clean Win 9x/ME
PC? You then run FP-UP.EXE and it will download F-Prot for DOS and
update it. You'll then get a menu where you can select to create a
three disk emergency boot disk set, including the special boot disk
plus two AV disks.

You boot up the ailing PC using the special boot disk and follow the
on-screen instructions. Choose to scan the C: drive. Don't select
options to delete or disinfect at first. Just see what F-Prot finds.
