Default Had to happen

I've always wondered when a trojan would come along that would mess with
the Task Manager - interfere with one's ability to hit control/alt/delete to
shut
down a hijacked browser - and suspect that's what happened to me yesterday.
When activated, the task manager at first wouldn't show on the screen, it
worked but had to be controlled using the options on the taskbar, and quickly
degraded to where the window maximised with no options for controlling
programs. I have Norton, but something slipped by. Maybe this is old
news but it never happened to me before. I finally used system restore
to get things back to normal, and scanned with Norton finding 1 virus
which I deleted, and scanned again to find no viruses.

Yes, it's old news. There are =many= viruses out there which intercept
and terminate all process launches of Task manager, Registry Editor, and
common AV products. You can usually defeat them by doing the scans in
safe mode, &/or by using versions of the same tools with patched names,
or even just by renaming the .exe files to .com (depends how smart the
virus was).
