My 2 cents worth: Most people I encounter who routinely _use_ computers (read: they are not really interested in how that thing works as long as it works) unfortunately ignore every virus warning, hoax warning etc. as long as they can persuade themselves that they are not affected anyway. A new virus on the prowl? Oh well, never mind, I never got a virus before, so I won't get one this time. So when they suddenly face the facts (in this case: Gee, there _is_ a file with that name on my PC!) they run amok with fear and (cynism ON) guilt because of their ignorance...
