Hi!
A short description of the problem: * forgot to connect the extra power cable (auxiliary is the right term?) after fiddling with the innards of the PC * Invalid Sync onscreen instead the normal complainments about the aux power cable not being connected * connect the aux power, still Invalid Sync What happened? No overclocking, playing with bios files or anything stoopid like that. Of course the PC was turned off and disconnected from the wall outlet where appropriate. The problem might not have anything to do with forgetting the aux power at all, it might be just a coincidence. The only mod of the card is that it has some copper heat sinks installed on the memory chips. The card is not mine (or even near me), so I cannot physically examine it or do any measurements. But my guess is that at best it could be a PSU or cap (the card caps) problem. AGP slot? Or - at worst - the card is dead. If so, what do you think killed it? I have a vague memory of having read something about something similar to this but I could not find anything despite very intensive googling. The vague memory suggests that this might have something to do with the drivers (how, they were not changed in this case?) or the card bios gone bad by itself. Having resurrected quite a many Matrox cards I don't find it hard to believe the bios contamination idea... If any other ideas, checklists, suggestions or anything at all, answer here in the group as there might be someone else out there with a similar problem. -- gt |
