I am using Windows XP SP2 with the latest 4.10 Catalyst drivers and I
am unable to hibernate when atiptaxx is checked to startup in msconfig. Also, when I uncheck atiptaxx (doesn't startup), I can hibernate fine unless I right click on the desktop, select Properties, Settings, and then Advanced. If I do that before hibernating, then it always displays black screen after showing 'Preparing to hibernate" and PC crashes displaying black screen only. This is the exact same thing that happens if atiptaxx is checked to start and I try to hibernate. I have to restart the PC after that. No problems hibernating whatsoever as long as I have atiptaxx unchecked and do not go into the Advanced tab under display properties / Settings. Also, if I uncheck "Enable ATI taskbar icon application" under Advanced tab, Options, which basically disables atiptaxx.exe, then everything is fine. Anybody have any idea why this is happening? Please note that I tried the 4.10 drivers today and same hibernate crash occurs if I leave "Enable ATI taskbar icon application" checked. Thank you. Morad. Here is what ATI tech support told me: 1) Thank you for your response. I followed your suggestions and disabled all non-Microsoft services with the exception of Ati HotKey Poller, and ATI Smart. For startup I left only ATIPTAXX checked off. I checked regedit and did not find anything else under Run or RunOnce. Again, my system shows "Preparing to hibernate" and then after a few seconds I get a black screen and the computer is nonresponsive. The only option I have then is to hit the reset button. What I believe is creating the problem is the Ati HotKey Poller. To prevent the hibernate crash from happening, all I have to do is uncheck "Enable ATI taskbar icon application" under Display Properties, Advanced and Options. What this does is it removes ATIPTAXX from the msconfig Startup list. As a result Ati HotKey Poller is nonfunctional. Please look into this as I have no doubt what is causing the problem, at least for my particular setup. Let me know if you need additional information. Thank you! Morad. This makes me think there is a conflict with another process running in Windows. Try the following: Use MSconfig to eliminate excess processes. (use the Start button, pick run, then type msconfig, hit enter or click OK) On the first page select selective startup, and de-select startup items. Also, use the Services page. Select at the botton, there is a check box "hide all Microsoft services", check that box. Then uncheck everything that remains. Apply and restart. Test. You may have to be more diligent, there are other programs you have that probably don't get called by the above methods, check the various run branches in the registry, eg: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Hkey_users\big number\SOFTWARE\microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or just locate the processes manually and shut them down. Test. Note: The TicketGUID identifier must appear in the message body, not in the subject line. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regarding atiptaxx.exe causes problem on hibernation: Thanks for the response and further information. Since we have no other cases of this behaviour, then there is something specfic in the system that is triggering the problem. I am not sure that we'll come up with anything that's going to fix the problem. Turn off any keyboard macro programs that may be running, and ensure you have the latest BIOS for the machine. If you have not already done so, try a different ATI driver version. Otherwise keep atiptaxx.exe from loading.
