Default X800 Pro - 98SE?

I have 98SE and a dying 8500. I figure I might as well go for a high end
card, so I'm looking at the X800 pro. The system requirements don't show 98
or ME, but I'm wondering if the card will work on 98SE anyways?

TIA.

The latest driver for 98/ME on the ATI site does not list the X800 as a
supported board.

Like it or not, 98 is a dead end.

If you haven't upgraded your system since the 8500 was current then save
your money and get a 9600--it probably isn't fast enough to take advantage
of anything faster and with the 9600 the power requirements aren't so high
that your power supply would be likely to become an issue. You might also
want to put what you save on the video board over the X800 into upgrading
your OS.

Upgrade your OS along with your video card ... it's time.

if your system is that old then the RAM,CPU and M/B are going to bottleneck
your graphics..you'll never be able to fully utilize the card.

Do you know this, or just inferring it from the fact that 4.10 for XP
supports X800?

I'm using both WinXP and Win98SE (Dual Booting) with X800Pro VIVO @ X800XT
PE. No problems on my system.

I'm sorry. I was wrong. I just booted into Win98SE and the display adapter
had a yellow exclamation mark. Hmm. Don't remember getting any error when I
installed the display drivers.

I forced the 4.10s onto a 98SE system with an X800 XT. The 2D works, but is
a little
unstable. Attempts to use OpenGL seem to freeze the whole thing.

Cheers,
Paul.
