Hi all.
I upgraded my video card from a Radeon 8500 LE to a Radeon 9800 XT (Hercules 3D Prophet). :-) But there no real change in Serious Sam 2. What's wrong ? My system : MSI K7T266PRO2-RU (AGP 4x only) Athlon XP2000+ 1 GB RAM XP pro SP1 Catalyst 4.3 DirectX 9.0B Regards. -- Fab |

If so, you may have vsync enabled. This effectively caps your frame rate at the vertical frequency of your monitor. In my case 75FPS to correspond with the 75Hz refresh of my LCD panel. You should be able to turn off v.sync in the drivers or the game, but you may experience something called tearing. Diff to describe, but you will know it when it happens!!! To be honest, I don't notice any difference to any games when the FPS goes above 75, and I think many people say that you only notice frame rates when they drop below 40 ish. As long as my gfx card keeps games at 75 fps even under really heavy load I am happy! When my gfx starts to struggle, and it becomes obvious it's struggling - that's when I will upgrade again! Currently running 980 Pro on abit AN7 with 1GB and 3200+ - runs all my stuff like a dream. Joe. |

I did a little more tests, and here is what I do : in ATI driver : - set Performance/Quality slider in the middle for OpenGL in the game : - set driver to OpenGL - set preferences to "Normal" - disable vsync - enable FPS display on the screen ( /hud_iStats=1 in console ) - find a particular position in the game where FPS are low (below 50) and save game at that position - do changes in graphics options, and compare FPS ! Results : whichever resolution I choose, whichever option I change, I always get nearly the same FPS at this particular position : 640 x 480 => 49 FPS 800 x 600 => 49 FPS 1024 x 768 => 48 FPS 1280 x 1024 => 47 FPS I can't beleive it !!!! Of course if I move in the game, FPS is changing, and can go up to 200 FPS. But why it seems not to depend on resolution, nor graphic options ???? Does anybody know what could be wrong with my setup ? Best regards. -- Fab |

If I remember correctly, I believe SS2 relies more heavily on the CPU than
on the video card. -- DaveW "Fab" <crcNO@SPAMchez.com> wrote in message news:c3e8ce$71l$1@news-reader2.wanadoo.fr... > Hi all. > > I upgraded my video card from a Radeon 8500 LE > to a Radeon 9800 XT (Hercules 3D Prophet). :-) > > But there no real change in Serious Sam 2. > What's wrong ? > > > My system : > > MSI K7T266PRO2-RU (AGP 4x only) > Athlon XP2000+ > 1 GB RAM > XP pro SP1 > Catalyst 4.3 > DirectX 9.0B > > > > Regards. > > > -- > Fab > > |

You are CPU limited. Upgrade your cpu to unleash your XT.
