I have an AIW 9600 Pro, and I've having problems with it locking up my computer.
I've asked for help a few times before in this newsgroup and other places and recieved some helpful tips, but the problem hasn't totally gone away, so I'm asking again. Here's what I've done so far: I first started with the Catalyst 3.9 drivers, installed in this order, it seems to be the most popular: capture driver, don't reboot, display driver, reboot, control panel, reboot. TV watching and capture works fine, but when I play back a file with Multimedia center or use TV On Demand, the computer freezes after 30 seconds to a minute of playback; I have to hit the reset button to get my computer back. I can play files recorded by MMC with Windows Media Player and Winamp without lockups, so the files it records are fine. This also happens with the DVD decoder. After this happened a few times, I uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled a few times, varying the order a little each time but nothing seemed to help. Later, I installed Half Life, but it wouldn't start. I uninstalled the 3.9 drivers and installed the 3.8 drivers and it started and played fine. However, after 30 or 40 minutes of playing, it would freeze, just like it did with the video playback. I have it set to use OpenGL rendering, when I tried to set it to Direct3D it went into software mode. I originally had a Sound Blaster PCI128 and someone suggested that it might be causing problems, so I took it out and enabled my onboard sound, but the problem didn't go away. I also tried disabling dma on my hard drives, but that didn't help either. I have Windows XP Pro SP1 with DirectX 9.0b and the latest WM Encoder/Player installed. I have the most recent drivers for my AGP and IDE chipsets installed, they're ALi. This almost looks like an overheating issue, but the fan on the card is in place and running fine, and I have plenty of case fans, so I highly doubt that it is a cooling problem. I think I've covered everything I've tried, can anyone think of anything I haven't tried? Thanks, Brett |

My power supply is an Antec 350W, my cpu is an Athlon XP 1700+ in an iWill XP-333 motherboard.
