Default 9700 to 9800XT worth it

Is it worth me upgrading from a 9700 non pro upto a 9800XT?

Anyone done this?

TIA

Sean

No, go to www.tomshardware.com and look for VGA card test. Your 9700 is not
so much slower compared to 9800. Save your money for something newer.

No...

Is it faster? Yes... but not worth $500 faster with what you have.

Wait till HL2 comes out or Doom3 and see how well it runs on your
9700.... save money for upgrade... perhaps AMD64bit system to boot,
with an ATI-9900 (or whatever they call the next one).

I would think not... I went from my VooDoo5 last week and the
difference is astounding.... Bought "Call of Duty", went through the
single player with my jaw on the desk... Even HL DM is remarkably
better..... Got a deal on the Asus Radeon 9800XT as it had just been
pulled from a box that had been made by my local mail order place on
special order.... Great people and just 6 blocks from my house...

Voodoo5 ...come on.... I know those cards are Leet but already perform
lower as many cards that are for already 2! years on the market!

This topic was 9700 vs 9800XT, in what the difference really is small,
and the price of the 9800XT ... very high. So the bucks vs. upgraded
performance tells NOT to upgrade yet.

In your care voodoo 5 vs. 9800XT it's quite simple, your card is
rather antique and ANY replacement will do fine. So buying the fastest
card now is a right action, if you wish to invest that amount of money
on it!

If you read the first line of my post you would see that is what I
said... I was simply showing what was a worthwhile upgrade...
Geeze....

Doubt it's worth it, unless you have more money than you know what to do
with. Whats the rest of your system like?

Probably at an absolute outside measurement under forced conditions, but in
most cases I would suspect a minimal improvement.

Yep, the 9700 Pro is already such a good card that for quite a while
you simply don't need to upgrade. :-)
