Wave editor with peak detection and display

Hi,

Does anyone know of a wav file editor that detects the highest peak in
the file and can display it or when it occurs?

I'm using Audacity to do some recording, but would like to be able to
see when the highest point is so I can set the recording levels
better.

If a recorder only will do try Wave Repair. It has a very good meter.
