Default Alternate Flash Plug-in

I removed Flash from my system long ago. But now I'm running into a lot of
sites that *require* Flash just to enter. And often, all the navigation at
these sites is is done in Flash, not html. Does that mean I have to re-
install Macromedia's Flash Player, or are there lighter, 'greener' apps
that will do the job, and plug into my browser (Mozilla)?

Thanks.

You might give the Mozilla Flashblock extension a try. Then you won't
see any flash unless you overtly request it.

This is perhaps a 'Catch-22' situation for the OP:

Known Bugs (FlashBlock)
<http://flashblock.mozdev.org/problems.html>

**/
Flashplayer Plug-in not installed
If you do not have the Flashplayer plug-in installed, but have
installed Flashblock, Firefox/Mozilla may crash when you visit webpages
that have flash content.
/**

Flashplayer plug-in should be installed first b4 installing FlashBlock
(the above bug page does say "may crash" though, so maybe YMMV).

I've been using the Flashblock extension for about 3 months. It has
worked as advertised. If the OP d/n want flash installed, then yes,
that's a showstopper.

But, if the OP is willing to install flash, it only activates when you
click on the icon that appears where flash would take place. Really
quite snappy. I've had no problems getting into "flash-needed" sites
but only running those occurences that I want, if any.

Sounds quite good. May install this myself, thanks.

I already have the capability to block Flash (Proxomitron), so I'm just
looking for a smaller, greener alternative to Flash...if one is available.

I cannot understand why you want another flash plugin. The macromedia one is
great!

The Macromedia one doesn't give you the option of taking an
infinite-loop Flash and playing it only once, the way Mozilla allows you
to take an infinite-loop Gif and play it only once. (I *hate*
infinite-loop animations.)

The Macromedia one doesn't (consistently) give you the option of saving
the Flash to your hard drive.
