Default Saving Windows Update Downloads.

Any freeware tools to enable me to copy/capture the WU executables once
they've downloaded (Post-SP2)?

I used to just simply copy & rename the files from from the temp folder
to the desktop.

But it seems WU uses a different method of installing WU files. AFAICT,
the files are now downloaded to "C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution" before
being automatically installed. The WU executable is then deleted before
I have time to copy/paste/rename it.

Any ideas guys?

TIA

How do you get to save the updates in XP, I read the instructions in the
link but they don't apply to XP or at least those options are not available
on mine (with service pack 2)you only have 3 choices and none of them give
an option to customize the updates to be able to save then to the hard
drive?????

This is a great pity. FatMan is not alone in wanting to do this. I'd love to
compile a service pack to apply all critical updates to 98SE. Sometimes M$
seem to go out of their way to annoy you.
If anyone finds the answer to this (if it exists) I hope this thread
continues....

Thanks for the link. I was aware of this and have used it. It worked fine
for me, although "others" seem to have had problems.
What this doesn't contain is the big stuff like IE6SP1, MPlayer 10 and .Net
Framework.
It's just a pity (IMHO) that M$ try to stop you saving the blasted things. I
can't see their logic myself.
I know *some* people think that they just like being the awkward squad, I'm
beginning to agree.

It CAN be done. You just have to get prepared for the download and make
plans - and you don't get much time.

I've managed to find a download link with the option to save the file to
disk for every update I've ever gotten from MS for Win98. You just have to
look for them.

For instance, here's the link for the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1
Redistributable Package:

http://tinyurl.com/dzyu

or
