Default OT - Mistery Icon

Hi,

I have just got a new computer, and have started to install all of my good
freeware programs on to it.

However, now in my tool bar is the following icon which refers to my
newsgroup account. I can't figure out which program is "protecting" my
newsgroup connection?

http://www.cili.org.uk/icon.gif

Any ideas?

Anthony

That would be the new feature in the latest version of Avast! anti-virus.
Now protecting newsgroups.

This thing worried me for days. It originally only showed up when I
launched Thunderbird.

I had to disable the nntp scanning because it didn't let me connect with
news.octanews.com anymore and slowed down the download from my ISP server.

This issue is reported in the Avast forum:

I killed it too b/c it was dropping my connection and I was getting headers
only. Damn, the thing will bring your to a crawl on broadband.
