Default Magic Mail Monitor and Outlook Express

Since my server - Sympatico - altered my settings in OE I cannot get magic
mail monitor to work no matter how I configure it. So I thought I may as
well use the OE notification icon in the bottom tray. Then I noticed that I
do not get notified of any emails unless OE is actually running. Can someone
answer this question - what is the point of an OE notifier if you already
have OE running? Or have I got that configured wrong. Also does anyone have
a small reliable email notifier that will allow deletion at the server end
(to replace Magic Mail Monitor).
TIA
Paul

You have a MMM mailbox set up in exactly the same way as your OE
settings and it is not working?
That is odd.

I agree - odd but I am at my wits end about it and that is why I thought I
would just you OE notification; but like I said that only works if you are
running OE in the first place. So the notification seems pointless.
Incidentally the do the three Ms mean?

Hmmm.
Firewall?
Non standard port?
IMAP?
White space or dots where there shouldn't be any?

I find MMM to be disgustingly reliable and straightforward.

Hmm... The incoming message port is now 995 (was 110). But part of the
configuration with Magic Mail is to state the port number. So how that
affect it?

Have you told your firewall about the change?

My firewall is Sygate free edition and Magic Mail is entered there as ALLOW
(all for this)
Should I have done something more in Sygate?

Dunno. It is an obvious place to look though.

Perhaps Sygate is only allowing MMM on 110?
