SoftCAT v2.0 RC1


Overview :

SoftCAT is a database program designed to help you organize your
software. Not only will SoftCAT help you know what you have and where
it is, but it will also help you keep track of important information
like serial number, registration name, and other registration
information. You never know when you NEED this information! More than
20 data fields will help you track information like program title,
version, publisher, platform, type (commercial, freeware, shareware,
etc.), category (Desktop Enhancements, Games, Utilities, etc.), price,
installation date, installation folder, product homepage, serial
number, and registration name. You can password protect your database
to prevent unwanted users from opening your database. Use the backup
function to make backup copies of your valuable data. SoftCAT uses
pop-up menus for quick access and navigation. SoftCAT comes with a
sample database to get you started and a comprehensive
context-sensitive on-line help system. SoftCAT is intuitive and
easy-to-use, and you will soon find that SoftCAT is all you ever need
to keep track of your software. And remember, SoftCAT is freeware!

* New data fields: Reference No, Added to Database (date),

only), 3 custom text fields, 3 custom lookup fields, 1 custom memo
field, 1 custom numeric field, 1 custom date field, and 9 custom check
box fields.
* All tables now have a Marked field, allowing you to work with
subsets (marked records).
* New auto catalog function (SoftCAT Plus only): Will search your
computer for installed programs and auto-catalog these programs (title,
version, publisher, icon, installation folder, installation date and
program file).
* In version 2 you can have multiple list layouts and saved sort
orders. In addition, you can use filters to limit the information that
is displayed in the browse list, and you can create your own grouping
definitions.
* New Transfer function to transfer information between databases.
* New import/export functions: Import from Text File, Export to
Text File and Export to XML (SoftCAT Plus only).
* Report Designer - lets you create professional looking reports
with exactly the layout you want (SoftCAT Plus only). More than 30
pre-defined reports are included.
* New search commands: Simple Search, Advanced Search, Summary
Search, Global Search and Search and Replace (SoftCAT Plus only).
* New 'Find deleted programs' function that will find programs that
have been deleted.
* New Find function, available in all views. Instead of searching
the complete database like the standard search function, the find
function only search the records actually displayed in the browse list,
and it will only search for one record at a time, either upwards or
downwards in the list (works like the find function in most word

* New statistics module (SoftCAT Plus only).
* Added a new auto backup function (Tools->Preferences->Backup).
When this feature is activated, the program will automatically backup
the database when you close the database, or exit the program.
* You can modify the database setup and save the setup as a
database template. Screenshot. This template can then be used when
creating a new database. This is useful if you want to share the

* Various other minor enhancements.
