Or, better yet, http://mirror.ati.com/support/driver.html. Catalyst drivers
will work on all Radeon cards except mobility ones, but the same is not always (although it usually is) true for MMC and OEM cards. patrickp "Nitza666" <nitza666@pathfinder.gr> wrote in message news:1059790422.293657@athprx02... > www.ati.com ............. > "Dom Robinson" <murphyisamuppet@hotmail.com> wrote in message > news:MPG.1994fed78a068a5c98a142@news.cis.dfn.de... > > I'm looking for updated drivers for the ATI Radeon 9600TX 128Mb card, but > the > > only ones I found on Medion's site (who put the PC together) are a 65.5Mb > file > > in German. > > > > Can aomeone please tell me which other 9600 drivers will work with this > one > > please? > > > > TIA, > > -- > > > > Dom Robinson Gamertag: DVDfever email: dom at dvdfever dot co dot > uk > > /* http://DVDfever.co.uk (editor) > > /* 935 DVDs, 259 games, 33 videos, 67 cinema films, 69 CDs, laserdiscs & > news > > /* tomb raider angel of darkness, hulk, 24, speed kings, hitcher, phone > booth > > "Organiser Eric Amy hit out today after just four people showed up for > > a public meeting to fight apathy in Dorchester" - Dorset Evening Echo > > |

Your card is either a Radeon, in which case, whether ATi built or OEM, in which case you can use the Catalysts, or a mobility chip, in which case you would not expect ATi to have appropriate drivers, because the chip will have been made and altered by another manufacturer. In addition, the following poster also points out that you can use the Omega drivers (which are tweaked ATi drivers) with mobility chips. So what's special about your card that you can't find drivers for it? patrickp |

The Medion 9600tx card is a Radeon chip, with some significant modifications
from the reference design. It's been reported that it's a 9500 chip, overclocked, with 128Mb Ram. It also lacks the DVI Output but has two VGA O/P's instead. It is NOT a 9600 chip. It also has a PCI ID which is not listed in Ati's drivers, BUT when listed in the drivers they work beautifully. > I don't understand, Dom - in what way don't ATi have the drivers on their > site? spam@awshepherd.freeserve.co.uk says... > The 9500 Pro or Non Pro are the same chip, the board does NOT have the extra > 128 bit data bus, but it's been rumoured that MAYBE it's possible to enable > the extra 4 texture units.... agreed Alan, but your quote of "been reported that it's a 9500 chip" prompted my input of "9500NP" And if it has a combo of 9500NP and the original 9700 reference design 'L' shaped memory chip[s] then the card can be 'softmodded' in minutes without a BIOS flash by the simple installation of the 'Omega' drivers. This I have done now 9 times in total and with the exception of one [Connect3D brand] card all have worked fine. The O/P 'Dom Robinson's needs were quite different - he only needs to: -disable 'fastwrites' " The capacity of any [high level] Operating System (WindoZ) to do what you want is controlled by the [low level] Operating System (the BIOS), this is the most often overlooked issue. Switch off the bloody "fastwrites", goto: GoTo: //omegacorner.com/ then click on "omega's corner" then click on "ATi Radeon" then click on "bios setting for you video card" then sort your BIOS as a 1st step to doing the mod! -use the Omega drivers. "The "omega" drivers are safe I've used em for 7 or 8 years, they [the v2.4.74] have built in everything: "smartgart tab, AGP x1 x2 x4 x8 and the NaStY "turn them OFF fastwites",clock rate tab, adjust or overclock the "clock rate and/or core", OpenGL & Direct3D, adjust anti aliasing/anistotropic/vertical sink etc -never install the ATi Control Panel "The ATi Control Panel 'LOCKS' information and should be uninstalled and never re-installed, it is the most frequent cause of inability to upgrade drivers. It is of no use, you don't need it, most probobly you never touch the icon one you have fininshed the initial install of your card, get rid of it! -and his problems will be solved! > Hmm I also suspect that to save money Medion have also not fitted a flash > memory chip in the card as a Bios so the Bios cannot be changed to make it a > 9700....... irrelevant - see above, but this particular observation of yours is what led me to intervene, it is common knowledge that ATi put the 'boot in' to all makers using the old 9700 x4 pipe - the only reason I can think of for crippling a BIOS' flash is that they are using 9700 ref spec PCB and don't want anyone re-opening the other pipes! Once again you don't need to flash, just need the Omega's! Hope this helps, BoroLad > And ALL ASFAIK 9700's have a DVI O/P, so it won't be possible to use a stock > 9700 modified Bios, or driver to make the card a 9700. > > > The Medion 9600tx card is a Radeon chip, with some significant > modifications > > > from the reference design.
