Thanks to all who replied.
I tried Hamster + Xnews, set them up for the 2 of the 4 n/g servers I
use with the smallest no of groups and then checked the prog sizes.
Would
you believe it the total came to quite a bit more than OE on its own +
storage folder. So for the time being I am staying with OE.
I may well try again at a later date probably using
K-Meleon
Roumndabout
Hamster
Xnews
I have discounted Opera and Mozilla as they both write all kinds of
stuff all over the place. But I may be tempted by an Opera + Hamster
combo. This should enable me to copy files between my 2 comps + make
backup easy, I use My Own Backup.
I also use K9, Proxomitron, AVG, Kerio and have a router so I think I
have security covered.
Thanks again,

You installed a server *and* a client, and neither of them have a bunch
of their stuff integrated *in the OS*, like OE does. Not a meaningful
comparison.

Another factor is that Hamster compulsorily downloads all bodies.
If you're including the data files in your comparison, that's
going to skew it. If you don't want all bodies, Xnews, Dialog, or
the like, can handle multiple servers intrinsically.
