Default No sound from computer

Hi,

I have been using a Windows 2000 computer which had the sound driver
installed successfully previously, but suddenly one day the computer lost
the ability to produce sounds. The motherboard is a Asus TUSI-M all-in-one
motherboard with SiS 630ET 3C Integration Single Chip. It also has a Cmedia
8738 PCI Audio Chipset.

Normally a speaker would appear on the bottom right hand side of the screen
, but now that speaker is gone. There is no Cmedia driver shown in the
"Device Manager", but rather some "legacy audio" device shown. Attempts to
install the driver have also failed. I checked the PC BIOS and it shows the
PCI Audio Chip as enabled. However I can't understand why attempts to
install the driver have failed.

Does anyone know what may have happened?

Thanks.

Peter

Default Re: No sound from computer

remove from the device manager 'other devices' and the 'legacy' device and reboot
