Default HP Officejet 5510 Software Automatically Installs Where It Wants Too!!!!!

I just purchased an HP Officejet 5510 and HP's proprietary software
will only load to my master/boot hard drive, which is full, thus only
loading the most basic utilities, which will not do.

So, I've decided to make my current slave/non boot 40 gig hard drive
the master, so that I can install the full version of my HP Officejet
5510 software on it,and prevent things like this from happening in the
future.

Can I make the master/boot hard drive the slave hard drive and visa
versa through bios? If something goes wrong, can I just go back into
bios and reverse it to the former setting, or, is there a better way of
doing this?

Thanks!

It depends on the Operating System you are using.

Windows 98 and Me must be booted from the C: drive (the first drive on
IDE0).
Windows XP can be installed on any drive. But you must have a C: drive with
a bootable partition for the boot loader.

The smart thing to do is install your OS and programs on the C: drive and
move all of your data to another drive. You may put the OS on the 40GB drive
if you make it the C: drive.

I have Windows 98SE installed on C: and takes about 600 Megabytes of space.
Windows XP home and all my programs is installed on D: and uses 4.88GB of
space.
all of my data is on E:,F:, and G:.

Steve,

Something not mentioned previously is that this is not an OS or BIOS
thing only. Previously when I ran two hard disks on a desktop, I had to
set the jumpers on the back of one HDD to Master and jumpers on the back
of the second HDD to slave. Consult with the manufacturers instructions
(WD, Seagate, Maxtor?) that came with the HDD. I also had to route the
wide, flat cable first to one HDD, then to the second one. I forget
which one came first. You MUST read the HDD manufacturer's instruction
manual. If you don't have it any more, go to their website, search, and
then print it.
