The main measure of scanner speed is the speed that the scanner sensor moves
down the bed of the scanner.

For the Epson Perfection 3170 PHOTO:

Scanning Speed
8.7 msec/line at 3200 dpi; 2.8 msec/line at 600 dpi

The digital transfer is small in comparison to the time it takes for the
scanner head to travel down the document.

Is there a measure of scanner speed that can be used to distinguish which
scanners priced somewhat the same, will offer the greatest speed in
scanning? I am starting with the assummption that the scanners being
compared are using USB2.
