We recently picked up an HP Scanjet 3970 ($150 Canadian at Future
Shop). It was more or less an impulse thing, and I'm beginning to realize that this still isn't a very good idea in the world of scanners. We have managed to scan a few slides with it, in addition to sheets - but the software that came with it is HORRIBLE. (A quick google search reveals that I'm not the only one who thinks so.) Lots of pretty graphics but almost no way to easily access the settings _when you want them_. Plus it sits there forever saying "Warming up the lamp." Several people have recommended Vuescan; I downloaded one of the 7.6 versions. The user interface looks much better - but it comes up with the "No scanner was found attached to your computer" message (even after uninstalling the HP software, which at least doesn't have any trouble finding the scanner). It's attached to the USB port on a Gateway laptop running Windows 98 (not SE, unfortunately). Does Vuescan support the HP 3970? Or have I bought myself a boat anchor? -- /~\ cgibbs@kltpzyxm.invalid (Charlie Gibbs) \ / I'm really at ac.dekanfrus if you read it the right way. X Top-posted messages will probably be ignored. See RFC1855. / \ HTML will DEFINITELY be ignored. Join the ASCII ribbon campaign! |

Go here to find out which scanners are supported. Look under support. I
failed to check this list out myself before I bought a new scanner and now have the Vuescan program but can't use it. http://hamrick.com/ "Charlie Gibbs" <cgibbs@kltpzyxm.invalid> wrote in message news:1275.622T1666T5975483@kltpzyxm.invalid... > We recently picked up an HP Scanjet 3970 ($150 Canadian at Future > Shop).
