Microtek slimscan C6 installation problem on WinXP MCE

I found a Slimscan at a garage sale for $5. It seems to work ok, but
when I install the Scanwizard software to run it downloaded from
Microtek, my computer won't go into standby mode anymore. The error
message says "The device driver for the 'SCSI/RAID controller' device is
preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persists, you may need to
update this driver." All applications are closed, and I just updated
the driver. I tried Microtek support, and they told me to reinstall the
software in safe mode, and that would cure the problem. Needless to
say, it didn't. They want $30 to give live support on a $5 scanner.
