Epson 3170 with the 1.25a driver update,will vuescan now support this scanner?

I sure hope so.

Also I noticed that the negative scan I did seemed grainier than
before when I went through the old driver.

Vuescan would solve this problem, unfortunately
I didn't check the list of supported scanners first ;-(

I also wondered wheter Vuescan would work after the upgrade but I bet it
still would not because the command set that the scanner need to see would
not have changed. Epson must develop a separate version in parallel for the
3170. Just my guess. You could always download the latest evaluation copy
of VS to experiment.

In regard to grain increasing, go through all of the options again to make
sure something hasn't been changed from your previous configuration (e.g.
sharpening got turned on or reset to a higher level).
