Have a scanjet 7400c successfully connected up to an XP pro pc, the
network/share scanning software on this and a number of other xp pro networked pcs.The whole setup works ok on most of the 'client' pcs in the sense that when the 'server' pc is on they are able to successfully use the scanner. However, problems ocurring on 1 pc on the network. When running the scanning software getting "scanner not found" error message. When go to the lan remote setup screen on this pc while able to enter the host name of the 'server' pc in the appropriate field in the Network Protocol section there is no entry at all and seemingly no way of entering the right protocol. This I feel is the cause of inabilty of this user to use the scanner however, I can see on no way to get the apropriate entry in this field. Your help will be very much appreciated. Removal/reinstalling the software fails to solve the problem Thanks Cornell |

User's network settings seemingly ok.
User able to access email (Lotus Notes), get internet access (via proxy), access network shares, print to network printer and use other network resources without any problems Cornell "CSM1" <nomoremail@nomail.com> wrote in message news:<5BdQb.2859$jL6.1002072196@newssvr11.news.prodigy.com>... > "Cornell" <cornelldr1@netscape.net> wrote in message > news:93ce9232.0401230630.6df4e96f@posting.google.com... > > Have a scanjet 7400c successfully connected up to an XP pro pc, the > > network/share scanning software on this and a number of other xp pro > > networked pcs.The whole setup works ok on most of the 'client' pcs in > > the sense that when the 'server' pc is on they are able to > > successfully use the scanner. Network setting may be OK for email and internet access, but that does not
mean the network settings are correct for the local Ethernet file transfers and two way communication. File sharing and device sharing is a whole another ball game. Since that is the only computer with a problem talking to the scanner server, there has to be a problem with this computer. Maybe this computer is missing the right protocol. or the protocol is not setup correctly. Does this computer "see" the Scanner Server computer? Open Network Neighborhood, is the scanner server listed? Also, search for computer, the scanner server computers name. Does this computers name show on the network from the scanner server computer. (Open Network Neighborhood). Make sure you do not have two computers on the same network workgroup with the same name. Also make sure the workgroup is the same on all computers on the scanners workgroup. Make sure the file sharing is turned on and working. Make sure printer sharing is working. (you said it is) Compare the network setting on this computer to the network setting on another computer that is working, (it must be the same operating system that you are comparing). Do you have a client setup software that came with the scanner network sharing software? If so, then run it on this computer, and see if that works. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- "Cornell" <cornelldr1@netscape.net> wrote in message news:93ce9232.0401260149.1026f7cc@posting.google.com... > User's network settings seemingly ok. > > User able to access email (Lotus Notes), get internet access (via > proxy), access network shares, print to network printer and use other > network resources without any problems > > Cornell > > > > "CSM1" <nomoremail@nomail.com> wrote in message news:<5BdQb.2859$jL6.1002072196@newssvr11.news.prodigy.com>... > > "Cornell" <cornelldr1@netscape.net> wrote in message > > news:93ce9232.0401230630.6df4e96f@posting.google.com... > > > Have a scanjet 7400c successfully connected up to an XP pro pc, the > > > network/share scanning software on this and a number of other xp pro > > > networked pcs.The whole setup works ok on most of the 'client' pcs in > > > the sense that when the 'server' pc is on they are able to > > > successfully use the scanner.
