Default I might as well be scanning smurfs!

Hey, I'm having big time problems with Version 7.6.74. Most likely
these problems originated in 7.6.73.

Everything is blue! Nothing is the right color, I even got out some
Reala (it's the only film that I've used that Vuescan has a profile
for) and did another scan with the reala profile. Pure Garbage! It's
blue, very blue.

Also, why do I have to drag the black/white point sliders so far past
the left/right ends of the histogram? On one scan, I was using a
black clipping of 26! That was what I needed to get the darn scan
histo stretched such that the black end was indeed black, otherwize,
even with a .1% clipping, it was closer to middle grey!

The only reason I upgraded was because I was having the opposite
problem with version 7.6.64. The preview histo was all at the left
end, and a clipping of 0 resulted in a significant loss of shadow
detail. However, the whites were always just fine.

I had much better scans when I clipped some of the black end than now,
because all I get is blue!

Help!

I am having the same problem with 7.6.73 and 7.6.74, I have gone back to
version 7.6.72 to get decent colours.

Same here with negatives - looks to me as if the film base colour (i.e. the
orange mask) is not being corrected for???

Canoscan FS-4000US with 7.6.73 and 7.6.74

Are you scanning from raw scan files, and using an existing
..ini file? If so, the "Input|Scan mode" option has changed
since 7.6.72, and you need to correct this option to make it
match the scanner you used to produce the raw scan files.

In my case I'm scanning direct from negatives on a Canoscan FS-4000US. Scans
which needed almost no correction with previous versions (e.g. 7.6.70) are
now extremely blue with 7.6.74. Tried deleting ini file, fresh install and
using default settings, all to no avail.

This should now be fixed in 7.6.75. You can download it from:

http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html

If it still isn't working correctly, could you e-mail me a
low-resolution raw scan file?

Thanks,

Ed,
This appears to have fixed it. Thanks very much for the rapid response!
