Default Need help choosing dedicated negative/slide scanner

I'm using an Epson Flatbed 1650 Photo for my 35mm negatives taken with an
AE-1 Canon. The results are mediocre at best.

I'm on a tight budget (kids need new shoes . Can someone give me some
good models of dedicated scanners I can search for on ebay with caveats,
etc.? Thanks a lot as I'm new to the scanner scene.

Ernest,

I had similar objectives. I ended up choosing to buy a refurbished Minolta
Scan Elite II on Ebay. It was $370 with a 6 month guarantee. I have been very
pleased.

It has digital ICE (highly recommended), a good software front end and it scans
at resolutions (2880) which are very satisfactory for me. Nice quality, user
friendly and great value.

Of course, your mileage may differ.

John
