Output quality of printing photos using refill ink

Hi,

I am wondering if there is any difference in the printing quality of
photos, if I am using refill ink, verses getting a new ink cartridge?
I have an HP photosmart printer and I love the quality of the photos
it prints. The printer has a tri-color cartridge and a photo
cartridge. However, these ink cartridges are expensive. I am planning
to get the refill package and fill it up myself. However, I don't
know if there is any difference for the quality of the output. I like
the fact that I can use the printer to print wallet size photos, or
any other odd sizes, without having to develop them in stores. Is the
printing quality ink dependent? Can someone tell me?

If you buy good quality, there is no reason to believe that 3rd party
ink is any different quality than OEM. Obviously the printer
manufacturers would have you believe otherwise.

I use MIS ink in my 2 Epsons with very good results.

You cannot be assured that the colors of non-OEM cartridges will reproduce
the same gamut as that from the OEM. If you don't know what that means then
this may or may not be a major problem for you but it is crucial if you are
serious about quality ink jet photo printing and trying to maintain some
predictable relationship between what you see on your monitor and what comes
out or your printer. I have not used HP printers for a long time. I have
used only high end Epson printers for several years: only an idiot would use
non-Epson OEM inkjet cartridges for serious photo printing. Although the
price of the OEM cartridge is ridiculous there just is no practical
substitute for most uses.

I gather you are an Epson retailer.
I get perfectly good results with non-Epson ink.
Like in the late 70's when colour photo kits became affordable, one has to first
adjust colours / brightness / contrast / saturation. All these options are
available from Printer Properties.

I am using MIS pigment ink in my 1280 with **excellent** results.

I am using MIS dye ink in my photo 900 with excellent results.
