HP 930 C Cartridge probs

Installed a new colour cartridge #78.

Did this as the previous one expired showing left orange light
flashing.

New one installed, orange light continues flashing. Cartridge checked
should work no protective film in the way.

This suggests to me a dud cartridge! Any other thoughts, they are so
damned expensive don't want to buy again unless I have to.

Supplier out of touch for a few days and printer needed. If there is
something to kick, or swear at to get working I can do that.

Try a hard reset.
Turn on printer power.
Open printer and remove both cartridges.
Unplug power cord from printer.
Wait 30 seconds.
Plug power cord back into printer.
Open top cover and reinsert both cartridges.
Turn unit on.
Print a test page.
