Cleaning roller on HP Photosmart 1218

After not being used for a while, my HP Photosmart 1218 is now printing
a red line vertically near the left edge of the paper. Upon
examination of the innards, I see that there is apparently ink on a
roller.

I'd appreciate any guidance on how to access and clean the roller.
