OS9 troubles with Hawking print server for i850

Purchased a Hawking USB print server to use with my Canon i850 such
that my Win98 box and G4/OS9.2 could both print off it. The Mac setup
was seriously flawed, and I didn't bother even installing it on the
Win98. (The Hawking instruction manual is strangely obscure about
OS<10, though the Hawking marketing folks assure one in the various
brochures that OS>8 works fine.)

In Chooser, I select Laserwriter8, and can see the device, but it
wants a printer description file (ppd file) that Canon doesn't seem to
offer. I tried selecting a generic ppd, but nothing worked. You can
spool a job, but nothing comes out. If anyone has a simple answer, I'd
appreciate it. Otherwise I plan to return the driver, and never give
Hawking any of my money again.

Umm, I really like my i850, so I'm sure not getting rid of that,
though I suspect that Canon is as much at fault for this as Hawking.
