Default Laserjet 4050 help

Hi,

Need to make a buy decisions on a 4050. Nice printer, low page count.

Output defect appears toner cartridge related but would like some
experienced opinions.

Right quarter of page has horizontal light bars on a black area. They are
about 1/32' in height and appear regularly at 10 per inch. The rightmost
part of the light bars are lightest, becoming more grey toward the left
until they disappear into the black toner bar.

Second defect is in the rightmost half inch of paper (letter size).
Consists of 10 per inch dark horizontal bars on blank area of print. Most
of these are barely visible except for 6 that are darker with the center
of each 6 being darkest. this group of 6 appears every 3 3/4", starts at
no particular place on a page, and looks like gear teeth tire treads.

The black test area had these bars coincident with the light bars, being
darkest in the center of the light bars.

The printer is not connected to a system at the moment and this is the
output from the internal software, specifically the cleaning page.

All characters are defect free and sharp.

Toner cartridge??

Yes put an other toner cartridge in then print the cleaning page and
the horizontal lines should not be there.

Do a Half Print Test:

Use the MP tray to feed paper.
Run a Self Test print using the printer's control panel.
When the trailing edge of the paper disappearing into the printer, lift the
cover to stop the print.
Remove teh toner cartridge and check the print before Fuser.
If the Defect is on the paper, the most likely cost is your Toner cartridge.
Otherwise, it is the Fuser.

Did test.

All flaws present right after the cartridge.

Looking for a new cartridge to verify printer.

Am not familiar with these very nice 4000 series units. Anything else to
look out for . . . noises etc that might indicate problems??

Thanks
