Do cleaning cartridges really work?

I have a Canon S820 that has a partially blocked print head. I can
print with High res just fine but get broken lines only with the black
when printing in regular mode. I have ran several cleanings, regular
and deep and it does not print any better.

I have soaked the print head in denatured alcohol for 24hrs and then
let them dry out completely for several hours and it still has not
helped. Just wondering if a cleaning cartridge would do any better.

Windex glass cleaner does it, ammonia D. Soak the
sponges and heads with is, maybe even fill the cleaning
cartridge with it.

Windolene and several others such as Mr Muscle contain ammonia which is a
solvent for dye based inks. Usually stubborn blocks are best cleared by part
filling a used cartridge and printing a few pages. As the ink density
fades - you've proved the solvent is getting through. If you print with high
res Okay it might be policy to query which paper you're using and the paper
thickness lever. It is usually best with Canon not to let the head dry out.
The head membrane under the print head is also quite finicky and will signal
a paper blockage incorrectly: drying it gently on soft tissue when replacing
often helps.

I use the cleaning kit from www.inkjetsaver.com, and it works great.
Removing the head carriage and cleaning helps too, but I would NOT let it
dry out before using it again.
