Hi - I need a new laser printer. My budget is $400. My requirements
are relativly simple. This printer will be used under Linux and FreeBSD, so postscript is a must. For that same reason, I need a printer that is driven off the parellel port. (Or Ethernet, but I doubt that's gonna happen in this price range.) If it's a question of quality and speed, I'd definatly would give up a few PPM for better print quality. I've always used HP kit, so I'm currently leaning towards the 1300, but I've seen a few less than stellar reviews of it. /Going to miss his 4100 |

Actually, the 4 and 4M are eight pages per minute; the 4L may be 4 PPM. The 4+ and 5+ models went to (I think) twelve pages per minute. > They are dirt cheap to refurb, lots of info exists on > the net about them, work fabulous with XP and just about every other OS > known to man, and will probably last much longer than any new cheap laser > you'll find. Although I have occasionally found sub-$400 deals on 4000-series printers, which I like better because of their instant-on fuser and quick printing. -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA |
