Default AMD cuts Opteron 848 price over 50% ?

IIRC, the Opteron 848 was listed for $3199, it's now $1514, that would
be a 52.7% price cut!

I prefer a cluster of 40 C3 @ 1GHz ;-)

Do you have examples, calculations, links?

The future of some kinds of computing may lie more in the direction of
a cluster of C3's than in the direction of a cluster of Opterons. My
suspicion is that interconnect costs and latencies make a cluster of
C3's impractical from a performance point of view, but it would make
an interesting topic of conversation.

Even were a cluster of C3's impractical from a performance point of
view, it might actually make more sense for some people (e.g. me) who
are at the moment more interested in insight than in performance.
