SWEET!!! if you believe & expect that GeForce 7800 will be as powerful as (let alone more powerful than) two high-end 6800s, you will be sorely disappointed. The G70 / GeForce 7800 is not really anywhere near twice as powerful as 6800 across the board: not in vertex processing power, pixel processing power, bandwidth, etc. only in HEAVY pixel shader situations is it even *possible* that the 7800 could get around twice the performance of 6800. only in pixel SHADING performance does the 7800 have a chance at getting twice the performance of 6800. the real numbers don't lie, only Nvidia does ![]() |

[ OT mode ON ] Go to www.guru3d.com for a ~ 26 page review of the 7800GTX or to any one of another 20 review sites. All did their reviews with production versions of the 7800GTX. nVidia really did their homework on this one, and TSMC seems to have yielded the goods just fine. And retail delivery IN QUANTITY on announcement date is unheard of in recent high-end video-card history. nVidia seems to have certainly taken all the criticism about "paper-launches" directed at Ati and themselves to heart and acted........... In fact, buy a 7800GTX at Newegg.com right now for $599. Sorry, the BFG version @ $619 is already sold out, but you have the reputable eVGA or the slightly overclocked XFX still to choose from @ $599. Buy 2 for your SLI motherboard and really be the envy of your friends :-) :-) ( The 7800GTX takes 10 watts less power than the 6800 Ultra ) Now let's see how Ati does on the Crossfire launches, Neither motherboards nor video cards have yet appeared in the US retail channels, despite all Ati's bluster at Computex. Anyway, any Crossfire boards with the flaky Ati Southbridge are to be avoided. At Computex, the MB vendors were complaining that Ati was insisting that they use this device instead of the non-buggy ULi one on the Crossfire boards. The delay in getting Crossfire motherboards into the retail channel may be that Ati was finally forced to spin new silicon by the MB vendors. Guess who gets to eat returned motherboards -- not Ati.... As for the R520, that will probably languish until Ati has finished licking the mud off Bill's boots -- seems as if the Xbox360 is just a little behind schedule --- zero working hardware at Computex. No doubt there will be the usual R520 paper release and engineering prototypes for the reviewers in the next month or so.
