Default Swann Webcam + Mercury TV card causing BSOD, Windows XP2

I have:

Swann Nighthawk (bought from Maplins)
http://www.swann.com.au/show_item.php?item=156

Mercury TV Tuner card with Composite Video input

http://www.mercury-pc.com/product-d...ds&productid=97

I have the latest drivers for the card.

I have a Dell 8250 PC - the card is in PCI slot4 (of 4). There is a
oundblaster Live card in PCI slot 2. The camera is connected to the
composite video input.

I am using Digi-watcher "Watcher" and using Motion Detection.

When I access the card using Direct Show mode I can only get the
352x288 pixel resolution from the card but the sensor has 628x582
pixels. When I access the card usign VfW rather than Direct Show I am
getting BSODs, with errors flagged in STREAM.SYS or TVCAP.SYS. These
BSODs seriously kill my PC - it takes several reboots before it will
even enter Safe Mode. Which is alarming...

Why am I getting BSODs?

What is the best software for motion detection with this camera+card?

Many thanks for your help.

If I'm not mistaken with the subject of this you're using XP and this is a
2k group. While they're quite similar in many ways this is likely one of the
areas that they aren't. You might try one of the XP groups instead and, more
specifically, I'd try one of the MCE groups because they're likely to be
more familiar with this sort of hardware than in one of the general groups.
Even one of the movie or video groups would be better than a 2k group
probably.
