Default GeForce FX5900SE with a 200W power supply

How is it I'm running this card fine (PNY Verto FX5900SE) in an HP
Pavilion 780n? This PSU is 200W, and the card requires a 300W PSU. I'm
not OC'ing, and Doom3 and Far Cry are running fine. I decided to take
a chance on getting this card after realizing my previous Ti4600
(which ran in this same computer for 2 years) required a 300W PSU
also. Any ideas?

200w psu sounds flimsy and weak. why don't you just go out and buy a
whole brand new ATX case with a 400 watt psu and move everything from
the pavilion into the new case. You will thank your lucky stars as you
can now upgrade at heart's content.

HP Pavilion cases are cramped and crap. The clowns at HP are too cheap
to put stronger power supplies in their home computers.

You are undoubtedly straining the power supply's voltage output stages, not
to mention straining the components in your computer with sub-optimal
voltages. As long as you don't mind buying replacement parts when they
fail, go for it.
