Dear enthusiast
I am having trouble editing, adding and deleting database records, but not viewing records, using Frontpage. I am using: FP 2003 SP1 Windows XP Proferssional with IIS and Microsoft Server Extensions added from the supplied CD This is all run on the one computer. I am using the Database Interface Wizard to create the database and web pages. I have checked the permissions on the database (Tools>Options>Tables/Queries and confirmed Rum Permissions is set to Users (and not Owners) I call up the web page in Internet Explorer using: http://localhost/ All the pages load properly, the internal hyperlinks and frames work properly, I could display existing records, but I can only view records, not edit, delete or add new records. For example when trying to delete a record I get the following: Database Results Wizard Error Description: Could not delete from specified tables. Number: -2147467259 (0x80004005) Source: Microsoft JET Database Engine When I used the Discussion Web Site Wizard instead, again the pages loaded properly but I could not submit a discussion thread. I received the following message - but as far as I can see I have the FP Server Extensions installed. FrontPage Run-Time Component Page You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly. This form or other FrontPage component will work correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage Server Extensions installed. Click the <Back> arrow to return to the previous page. Any suggestions??? Cheers...Alan |

For the discussion web:
The text comes from _derived/nortbots.htm. "nortbots" stands for No RunTime webBots, which implies there are no Server Extensions. nortbots.htm only appears in four cases: 1) You are testing on a disc-based website, which includes a FP disc-based site that is being browsed through a web-server. 2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions installed or running 3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to a URL of the form http://example.com 4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this problem. -- Ron Symonds Microsoft MVP (FrontPage) Reply only to group - emails will be deleted unread. Thanks for this - but I am not sure what it means for me. I am running everything off the c: drive. Is there a way I can turn on or test whether the Server Extensions are running? They were installed as part of the XP Pro installation. If you are opening your web in FrontPage using a file system address,
such as C:\path\to\web\webname, then you are using a disc-based web, which must be published to a server running FrontPage extensions. In WinXP PRO, install Internet Information Service (IIS) and the FrontPage extensions. This will create a website in C:\inetpub\wwwroot. Open the Extensions MMC (Control Panel->Administration Tools->Internet Information Services Manager Right click on the Default Web, then All Tasks and Check Server Extensions. Open the disc-based web in FP, then publish to a subweb, say http://localhost/subwebname If the disc-based web is already in C:\inetpub\wwwroot, then publish it to some other location on your hard disc. Delete the web contents, then check the extensions as above. Finally, publish the disc-based web to the server as above. In future, always open your web as http://localhost/subwebname -- Ron Symonds Microsoft MVP (FrontPage) Reply only to group - emails will be deleted unread. This all worked wonderfully. I ended up uninstalling and then reinstalling IIS and its Frontpage Extensions and then followed your advice and bingo - it all worked. I am very grateful. Thanks. you have to publish to the http://localhost on your computer (whichyou've
said is running IIS etc). therefore you publish to C:\inetpub\wwwroot (or whatever the path name is) then to view it put in to your browser http://localhost/yourweb/default.htm (or whatever the default file name is).
