A friend was working on a graphic in Paint to put on my website. I don't know
what keys he clicked, but the folder My Webs disappeared from my FrontPage 2003 program. I now have no local copy of my site, which is http://www.hairloss-reversible.com. The first place I looked of course was in the Recycle Bin - not there. I went to Search and typed in the file name - nothing. I can't imagine that all these files just vanished. It's certainly possible that the My Webs folder is still on my hard drive. If I can't find it, though, where can I find good instruction for reverse publishing - getting my site from my web hosting service back into a local copy on my FrontPage program? No more will I let a self-styled guru work on my computer and mess up everything. |

Log onto the remotely hosted site and publish to your hard drive.

"My Webs should be under My Documents."
That is the first place I looked. The folder was gone - no where to be found. I then went to My Computer and found My Webs but all the files here were over a year old. My current site is missing. I wish I knew how this disappearing act took place so that I won't make the same mistake again. It had nothing to do with the Microsoft Service Pack. Does anyone know of a book or an article on the Internet that explains reverse publishing? I'd like to know the steps to take in order to get my site from my remote server to my FrontPage 2003 program. |

Open your remotely hosted web with FP File | Open Web / Site and then File |
Publish and identify where on your hard drive you want it to go (e.g., C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents\My Webs). Now you know why you should have used that CD burner every time you made changes. Sometimes I burn 2 or 3 CD's in a week if I'm doing heavy modifications. Tom J Who does publish back to the laptop sometimes. |

Thanks everyone.
Here's what happened. My friend who was "helping" me with a graphics problem inadvertently dragged the My Webs folder into the Semantec folder that was right above it in My Documents. All I had to do was extract the My Webs folder from Semantec and put the local copy of my website back into my FrontPage 2003 program. An easy solution but it took me many hours to find it. Now you know why you should have used that CD burner every time you > made changes. Sometimes I burn 2 or 3 CD's in a week if I'm doing > heavy modifications. That is good advice. I'll be doing that from now on. |
