Default "Encountering Problem" message

I am getting a message box that pops up in various areas including
application programs and Windows and Internet Explorer. It states that the
program has "encountered a problem and needs to shut down". At the bottom it
gives me three option buttons, Send or Don't Send to Microsoft, and DeBug.
When I click any of these options it closes the application and I lose
everything I was working on. This is happening more frequently and it's an
extreme pain. I have no virus that I know of and I scan daily for
adware/spyware. What causes this and how do I KILL IT?
Thank you,
BG

If you're very certain that you're virus and spyware free, you evidentally
have serious system corruption. If you can't restore a known good backup,
you may be looking at a reinstall, unless you can narrow down possible
causes for your problems.
