I am having difficulties with my Outlok Enterprise edition. A Microsoft Rep
unistalled it using the Install Clean Up tool and manually deleting the registry entries. While awaiting my new Cd 9previous one is scratched), I was told to utilize the free Trial software available for download. However, while attempting to use Outlook, I receive the following error: "The Operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall." I have done all of the above and still encounter this problem when attmeping to open the Tools -> Email Accounts menu. Additionally, although all the menu choices appear to be active, clicking on many of them does NOTHING, including the Data File Management menu. Please help? |

Hi Brian,
I cannot - I get the following message: "There was an error accessing your system registry". Furthermore - when I attempt to click on properties for the existing profile - the one that I had been using prior to all my issues - I am unable to access anything. The buttons do not respond to my clicks. It is as though the buttons have lost their code as to what they are supposed to do when they are pushed? I think the Rep from MS really messed things up for me. Any other suggestions? Brian,
I am unable. The root of the problem -I ran out of space on my original 40GB HD. I installed a new one and transferred all of the data to the new HD using the included CD. Office then crashed. Now, I am unable to access System restore. I get the gneral Error message - "System Restore has encountered a problem and needs to close..... Send error report?" I tried using my Windows XP CD to repair, but that option isn't available - It says I have a newer version installed.... SP@ I presume, which isn't on my CD! I may have to go back to the old HD - but I am unsure of what to do then to get this all to work? Was it MaxBlast you used to transfer your data? > I tried using my Windows XP CD to repair, but that option isn't > available - It says I have a newer version installed.... I'm in the same boat you are: if I had to repair, I'd get the same message. |

Thanks Brian - yes - good guess!
I will attempt to find out more on slipstreaming - this is getting ridiculous - I am so tired of computer problems.... > Thanks Brian - yes - good guess! I recently bought a 60 GB hard drive for my PC, on sale for $25. It was a Maxtor drive and came with MaxBlast. When I transferred my data, I saw the same problem you did. I solved it by completely disabling system restore and reenabling it. That wasn't the only problem Maxblast caused, either. If didn't copy the contents of C:\Windows\Inf so that I could not, for example, perform a Detect and Repair of Outlook, since the installer needed files from that folder. Copying that folder over manually fixed it. There were also a few permission inheritance problems with a couple of folders (although I can't remember which ones). The permissions were being inherited from a folder on the old drive instead of the new one. That tool a few hours to sort as well, but I can't remember now what I did. Naturally Maxtor denied that anyone else had ever reported these problems and they were not aware of them. -- Brian Tillman |

Thanks Brian -
I will try those things - my only problem is that System Restore now isn't functioning either - the reason for trying to repair windows... I don't think I will use Maxtor's software ever again - Norton Ghost is what i have used previously wtithout any issue! I will try to go copy over that other fold to see if it fixes things! Thanks.
