Sorry there is no hyphen and yes I scan regularly. The BootExecute key
is set as you say. So what do I do now? Oh, the file autochk.exe is in the System32 folder. Apparently something set the flag and I need to unset it. |

Hey Ian,
Are you saying the dirty flag IS getting set ? When you boot run the fsutil command straight away, fsutil dirty query c: If its not set, then check again before you shutdown or reboot, if it is set, XP has set it , because it found a problem while running. If this happens check in the system event log for any disk related errors. Also try running chkdsk on the volume in question in readonly mode while the system is still up chkdsk c: If there are any errors, atleast it will report them even though it can't fix the xp volume while the system is booted. As an adendum, If you have the recovery console installed or access to the
installtion cd, then boot the recover console and run chkdsk on the xp partition from there.
