retrieving Contact SMTP address from Exchange

Hello all,
Can someone please tell me if I am looking at the solutions to this problem
correctly. I have a contact that has an email address that is being stored
as an exchange (Active Directory) address. I need to access the smtp
(internet) address of this contact. The options I believe I have are:
1. Use CDO
2. Use Extended MAPI
3. Use Redemption
Since the addin is written in VB I am assuming that option #2 is no good.
If there is an option I am missing or one that is not correct can someone
help to resolve this issue.
