Hi there,
I'm going nuts here with Outlook 2000 hanging on exit. Every time it stops on "Please wait while...". OL XP and 2003 work fine on the same mailbox. Other mailboxes work fine with OL 2000. There is no problem with OL 2000 running in IOM. Did the restore of the C partition from ghost image which was created (~ 2 months ago) when everything was working fine. Result - same hanging occurs. Did try to run "Outlook /safe"; Word is not the editor; no add-ins of any kind; no fax installed in Outlook; Offline disabled. After looking at this scenario, I came to the conclusion that there might be a problem with the mailbox itself. I did run isinteg.exe. It found some errors and fixed them. Still no change in Outlook's behaviour. The are no errors in event log of workstation or server. Configuration: Workstation Windows Professional 2000 SP4 + all updates Outlook 2000 SP3 + all updates Symantec AV Client with Microsoft Exchange Realtime Protection Server Windows 2000 Server SP4 + all updates Exchange 2000 SP3 + post SP3 update Symantec AVF for Exchange Outlook 2000 settings: CW mode Exchange No Fax No Add-Ins Text as default mail format (not using word) Anyone got any ideas what else can/should be done to fix? TIA Dave PS Pure coincidence or it might be related but it seemed to start happening some time after installing ProWrite & Aladdin's Word Documents on another machine that has Windows XP + Outlook XP and is connecting to the same mailbox. Un-installing them made no difference. |

We are having the same problem with mulitple computers here. I wonder
if it's tied into the new critical patch that Microsoft recently released. Has anyone found a fix yet? |

In our case OL2000 hangs on exit if a user uses OL2003 with cache mode
enabled to address the same mailbox. She actually rebuilt my mailbox and even moved it to a different Exchange server only to have the hanging on exit in OL2000 to reappear. I gave up and changed to OL XP at work an OL2003 at home to get around the OL2000 problem. After more people began accessing there Exchange Mailboxes with OL2003 more people started seeing the same thing. So I called her again to see if this had been resolved. This is what she sent me. Note I have not tried this as I move to OL XP . Your mileage may vary. Yes, multiple calls. If they are having a problem, they will need to call the Help Desk and open a ticket. They can also run the utility themselves. They need to turn off Cache Mode on Outlook 2003, then: At work from a DOS Prompt, type "outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy". They need to be out of Outlook before running the command and they have to be assigned to the directory that contains the Outlook.exe file. After running the command, they may need to build a new Outlook profile. They can then switch back to their original profile. There is a patch for this issue. It is applied to the client pc.
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=834005 Unfortunately you have to contact MS to get it. I've used it on several PC's and it has been working great. |
