Deleted items reappeared for no reason

Our organization uses Exchange 5.5. Today I had a user
who is using Outlook 2000 tell me that all of her deleted
e-mails dating back to January 1, 2003 reappeared in her
deleted items. I have talked with our Exchange admin and
she cannot figure out why this would happen. Can anyone
shed some light on this?
